A Country Practice on TV

Following the lives and loves of two country doctors, a vet and the rural community of Wandin Valley, A Country Practice originally ran for twelve years and over 1000 episodes, with millions of fans tuning in to watch around the world.

The main cast included Shane Withington and Georgie Parker, now both staring in Home and Away. A number of guest stars went on to find international fame, such as Nicole Kidman, Toni Collette, Simon Baker and Delta Goodrem.

As well as Australia and the UK, A Country Practice, produced by JNP Films for the Seven Network in Australia, was screened in France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Zimbabwe, and several channels in the United States and Canada.

James Davern, the creator of A Country Practice says: ‘Prior to A Country Practice, television drama in Australia was occupied with police stories, shoot-outs and car chases and associated mayhem. It took courage by the Channel 7 Network to replace all this with an interpersonal drama about two doctors and a vet in a small country town, caring for their patients and the people around them. The audience responded, the show ran twelve years and won 29 Logie awards.’
